Aloha gang, in this Reggae Sunday live cookup I’m building a reggae banger in Ableton, and Scaler 2 is doing a lot of the heavy lifting on the music theory side. I start by setting the tempo (I jump from 136 up to around 145 just to get the energy right) and laying down the “bubble”/skank vibe, then I stack in multiple guitars (yes—three guitars, they said it couldn’t be done) to get that sticky, choppy reggae feel. From there I fatten the harmony with stock grand piano, duplicate layers for texture, and start shaping the arrangement in Arrangement View—intro, chorus, verse, hook—so it actually feels like a song and not just an 8-bar loop. Then I go hunting for ear candy: dub sirens to let you know it’s about to go down, Addictive Drums reggae fills, short risers, and little percussion loops that I resample so I can drag them across the track clean. I talk through my layering mindset—lots of small sounds stacked together so you don’t sound like everybody using the same presets. I also build a memorable top-line vibe (melodica-style sample), turn a phrase into a horn/sax texture, and automate a dub delay “out into the WWE universe” for those classic reggae throw moments. At the end I do a quick mix pass: split the drums into kick/snare/percussion for control, add random panning and auto-pan for movement, sidechain key parts to the kick, carve low-end mud, and keep headroom around -12 dB before any mastering moves.
