About This Video

In this video I’m giving you my first impressions of Snapmaker’s brand-new multi-colour CoreXY printer, the Snapmaker U1. There isn’t a massive amount of info out there yet, so I’m working from the images, short video clips, and the early specs Snapmaker have shared with me. Snapmaker machines have always been really sturdy in my experience, but they’ve never properly jumped into the CoreXY market or true multi-colour printing (beyond their dual-head setup) — so it’s interesting to see them finally join the mix. From what I’ve been told so far, the big focus is speed and reducing filament waste. Snapmaker are claiming the U1 is up to five times faster than an average multi-colour printer and uses five times less filament, with waste reduction tied to their “SnapSwap” style multi-toolhead system. The specs I’ve been given mention up to 300mm/s on the toolhead, 500mm/s travel, and 20,000 acceleration, plus the usual modern CoreXY features like input shaping, pressure advance, and auto bed levelling. I also like the idea that it can swap not just colours but filament types too — so you could run a support material alongside your main filament. Right now this is a visuals-and-specs overview, but if I get the U1 on the channel I’ll do the full lot: unboxing, proper hands-on testing, prints, and an honest conclusion.
