In short, choose the Magic Keyboard if you prefer a minimal design, low profile, and easy portability. The Halo V2 IO, on the other hand, is more dynamic — it offers more functionality, a cushioned and satisfying typing feel, and a higher level of customization. So it’s a better fit for people who value comfort, versatility, and a more engaging typing experience. About This Video

I’ve been using the Apple Magic Keyboard for a long time, but I’ll be honest—mechanical keyboards are kind of a one-way road. In this video, I tested the NuPhy Halo V2 IO and compared it directly to the Magic Keyboard, including sound tests, daily typing feel, and how it fits into a Mac gaming setup. My first impression was literally “oh hell no, this thing is heavy” (it’s over 2.6 lb), so it’s not something I’d grab when I’m moving around the house in the summer. But once winter hit Toronto and I was basically trapped in my studio, it was the perfect time to give it a real test. The biggest win for the Halo V2 IO is connectivity and versatility: it works great not just on macOS, but also Windows and Linux, and I can connect up to four devices (3 Bluetooth + 2.4GHz dongle). With the dongle, you get a 1000Hz polling rate, which actually matters for gaming—especially FPS—because it feels snappier with lower input lag than Bluetooth. I also go over build quality, gasket mount comfort, hot-swappable switches, RGB customization, and battery life (up to 100 hours with lights on, and months with them off). There’s no single “winner” though. If you want minimal, low-profile, and portable, the Magic Keyboard still makes sense. But if you’re like me and you work and sometimes game, the Halo V2 IO is a really solid choice—just consider a wrist rest because the height can cause fatigue on long sessions.
