About This Video

Over the past few days I tested 10 different games on the MacBook Neo—both native macOS titles and Windows games through CrossOver (honestly, it’s pretty much the best way to play Windows games on a Mac right now). I went from heavier AAA stuff down to classic games like Age of Empires, just to come to one conclusion: you shouldn’t buy this Mac for gaming. Yes, you can install games and technically play, but once you see how these titles perform, you’ll understand what I mean. Some games were straight-up rough. Dead Island 2 (native Mac port) was around 18 FPS in busy moments and felt blurry with noticeable delay—I even started feeling dizzy after a few minutes. Resident Evil 9 was the worst: it kept getting stuck on loading and even froze the whole system, which is kind of expected for a 2026 AAA game on this level of hardware. Stray also surprised me in a bad way with stuttering and freezes even after lowering settings. But the Neo isn’t hopeless if you keep expectations realistic. Resident Evil 4 ran close to 40 FPS around 2K with MetalFX quality, and lighter/classic games were actually solid—like Oblivion at over 100 FPS, Dota Underlords running perfectly, Age of Empires II around 45 FPS, plus War Thunder, Silksong, and Stumble Guys all feeling smooth. My two quick tips: don’t keep a bunch of apps open while gaming (RAM is the limiter), and keep 50–70GB free storage so swap can help when memory fills up.
