About This Video

In this video I take a quick, no-nonsense look at the Nikon Z6III—and specifically the improvements Nikon still didn’t make. I didn’t even want to buy this camera for the channel because I already did a Z6II “fix this” video, and about 80% of those complaints are still here. But the comment section got loud, so I caved and picked one up to show the issues in real-world use, not marketing slides. First, Nikon still leaves the sensor exposed when the camera is off and you remove the lens. That’s bonkers to me, especially when there’s literally a workaround that proves it’s basically a software decision. Then I get into the IO layout: yes, full-size HDMI is nice, but Nikon’s own receiver blocks the port, so you can’t realistically run a trigger and a monitor together without headaches. I also call out missing basics for video shooters—still no Nikon hot shoe XLR audio adapter—and for wildlife shooters—no bird autofocus yet, even though the camera’s been out around nine months. Finally, I test the “bottomless buffer” claim and show it’s not bottomless at all. I hit buffering around ~199 shots, and even in RAW I’m still hitting the buffer. I’m not waiting for end-of-year firmware to judge this camera—I’m testing it as it exists now, and I’ll be comparing it against cameras like the Zf, Z8, R6 Mark II, R5 Mark II, and even the Canon R1.
