About This Video

In this video I put the Canon R6 Mark II up against the brand new Nikon Z6III and I do it the way I always do it—long, thorough image-quality tests. And yes, quick disclaimer like always: I bought both of these cameras with my own money. No loaners, no free gear, I went to B&H and paid for them, because I want the results to be about the cameras, not about who sent what. I start with pricing and specs (24.2MP vs 24.5MP), then I get into the real-world stuff: card slots, buffering, electronic shutter behavior, EVF/screen resolution and brightness, ports (full HDMI on Nikon—thank you), and battery expectations. I also call out the things that still annoy me, like Nikon not giving us a sensor shield and Nikon still doing pre-capture JPEG instead of RAW. For image quality, I run ISO noise, dynamic range shadow pushes, and an overexposure pull-back test using the exact same lens on both systems (Canon 24mm f/1.4 adapted) to keep variables down. My takeaway: Nikon generally looks a bit cleaner and retains color better when pulling highlights back, and Nikon is simply better in low-light autofocus—Canon struggles there. Canon still has strengths, like the multi-function hot shoe and that 40fps burst with RAW pre-capture, but you’ve got to decide if those wins matter more for your work.
