About This Video

In this video, it’s me (SG alcohol guy) and my gal giving you an honest review of The Capitol Single Malt Whisky by The English Distillery. I do a simple unboxing first—sturdy box, but the bottle is the real star. It’s a beautiful, unique shape with Chinese wording, and the best part: there’s a picture of the old Capitol building in Singapore on the bottle. As a Singaporean, I honestly felt proud just looking at it, even though the whisky itself is from England. Mine is bottle number 143 out of 247, and I picked it up at Whisky Journey (Nov 2024)—blacked out drunk, but somehow all my bottles made it home. For tasting, we do it three ways: neat, with a splash of water, and on the rocks. Neat at 55% is no joke—big hit upfront, strong nose (that nail polish remover vibe), and it even made us tear up. The body is heavy and full, with this strong “black tea without milk and sugar” character, plus plum and oak. With water, the burn drops a lot and the layers open up—more smokiness and more complexity. On the rocks, it gets lighter and smoother with no burn, but personally I still prefer it with a bit of water, while my gal leans neat. Happy drinking.
