In this video, I’m following up from last week’s Japanese gin face-off (Roku vs Kinobi Kyoto Gin), where Kinobi came out on top. This time, I’m putting Kinobi up against a super common household name: Bombay Sapphire. Bombay is actually quite good to me—especially as a gin and tonic base—but I wanted to see how they compare flavor-wise when you’re paying attention to the tasting notes. Starting with Bombay Sapphire, my take is it’s a very gentle, subtle gin where nothing is overpowering. It’s easy drinking, but it also doesn’t really have that “gin gin” taste—so if you’re the type who wants a more obvious gin character in a gin review, you might find it a bit too soft. Kinobi, on the other hand, brings more texture and more flavors, with a smoother burning overall. For me, if I’m having it neat, I’d still personally go Kinobi. But if you want something light, friendly, and easy (especially for a gin and tonic), Bombay Sapphire still makes a strong case.
