About This Video

Hi there, SG Alai here — and in this video I’m joined by my girlfriend Belle to review a second gin that she brought back from Helsinki: Kyro Dark Gin (500ml, 42.6% ABV). Belle shares the pricing context too: about €35 at the airport, and roughly around S$70 if you’re buying it online in Singapore. Visually, it pours an orangey-amber colour (very different from the Kyro Pink Gin), and the bottle talks about Finnish rye gin seasoned in oak barrels and “fierce weather” — classic. For the tasting, I do it three ways, same format as the pink gin: neat, shaken over ice (chilled), and on the rocks. Neat, it’s very easy to drink but I can feel more burn than the pink gin, and it’s not as sweet. Flavour-wise, I kept getting this specific note that swings between dried citrus peel and a faint ginger-like bite. Shaken and chilled, the burn basically disappears, and the citrus skin/dried peel character comes through clearer — but Belle and I both felt the extremes are a bit “too strong” vs “too much”. On the rocks is the sweet spot: the taste comes back without the burn, sitting right in the middle — super ideal for Singapore weather. End of the day, we’re on the same page: we recommend Kyro Dark Gin, especially if you like a less-sweet, citrus-peel style gin that still drinks smooth.
