About This Video

Bars open, and in this video I review Hendrick’s Grand Cabaret Gin—one of the Cabinet of Curiosities releases. SG alcohol guy and SG alcohol gal here, and we bought this bottle from Cellar Fiesta (their booth was literally the first booth at the event… we only bought it on day two because someone got drunk on day one—no names). Price-wise, I’ve seen it online at around S$90 for 700ml at 43.4% ABV, so it sits roughly in the standard Hendrick’s strength range. Like all my gin reviews, I test it three ways: neat, shaken with ice (just to chill), and on the rocks (where I actually want a bit of melt). Neat, it smells and tastes very “grapey” with a light hint of mint, and it’s surprisingly balanced—nice to sip, with a lingering burn that hangs around even after the flavour fades. Shaken/chilled turns cloudy (still don’t know why—tell me in the comments), but it removes the burn while keeping the flavour; it becomes sweeter and dangerously easy to drink. On the rocks, the profile shifts: more fragrance, more “gin-ness,” and the juniper/alcohol character comes out, so it feels less like pure grape sweetness. My pick? The chilled version—easy drinking, full flavour.
