About This Video

Bars open. In this video, it’s me (SG Alco guy) and my girlfriend (SG Alcohol gal) doing an honest review of the “unpronounceable” Bruichladdich Classic Laddie Sherry Cask Edition from Islay. We picked this up at Fiesta on discount, but it’s around S$85 retail for a 700ml bottle at 50% ABV—so yes, it’s stronger than what we’ve been drinking recently. And because I’m “professional” (aka I didn’t bring the jigger), we ran it in my usual format: neat first, then a dash of distilled water, and finally on the rocks. Neat, the first thing that hit was a strong burn right at the front—so strong it just wasn’t pleasant. Taste-wise, it wasn’t sweet, and I got this weird bland emptiness like an “incomplete whisky.” With a dash of water, the burn dropped slightly and the whisky felt a bit more “complete,” but the flavour got lighter and a weird bitter aftertaste showed up at the back of the tongue. On the rocks was the best of the worst: burn basically gone, bitterness reduced, but the taste stayed constant with no real evolution. End result: I don’t recommend this bottle—happy drinking, but not this one.
