Get the filter here: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/world-s-1st-versatile-magnetic-vnd-camera-filter/reft/13493183/samguw (I keep saying Kickstarter but it's actually on Indiegogo. Such a dumbass) Freewell sent me their new magnetic variable ND filter system to test and make a review. I've had this filter for a little over a month and put it through it's paces. It's an excellent filter with a few drawbacks. It's not for everyone but it will be a great addition to those it's for. In this video, I go over how to use it, image quality tests and my thought on the handling and who it's for. Let me know if you have any questions! About This Video

In this video I take a proper in-depth look at Freewell’s new magnetic variable ND filter system — and yeah, I keep saying Kickstarter even though it’s actually on Indiegogo (such a dumbass). Freewell sent it to me to test, but they’re not paying me and they didn’t get to preview anything, so this is just my real experience after using it for a little over a month. I break down what’s in the box, how the magnetic base ring works, and how the system flips between VND, CPL, ND32+CPL, and even a mist VND base. I also run image quality tests using my Canon C70 (because the built-in NDs on that camera are some of the cleanest I’ve used) and compare the Freewell VND against my Moment variable ND. The big takeaway: there is a noticeable color shift (especially green on the 2–5 stop), but it’s still manageable and way better than cheaper VNDs that go full jaundice-green and get hard to correct. In the real world, the magnets are strong and the whole system solves the annoying “swap between 2–5 and 6–9” problem really well — but handling isn’t perfect, and it’s best when you’re mostly on one lens. Overall, I think it’s a killer first VND system for beginners building out a filter kit, but less essential if you already own a bunch of filters.
