Shot my first roll of Lomography Potsdam Kino 100 AND as usual with film, something is bound to go wrong. Despite the results not being what I expected, I do like the results. About This Video

In this video I shot my first roll of Lomography Potsdam Kino 100 and tried to build a little “cinema style” portrait story—this girl moving through the city, reliving these fleeting moments. Lomography describes Potsdam as fine-grained and low contrast, cut from old German cinema film stock, and the sample images online look super clean and subtle. But my results came out way more contrasty than I expected, and that pretty much set the tone for the whole roll: film is film… something is bound to go wrong. I rated the film at ISO 50 (not box speed), and I also don’t develop my own film because it’s cheap here in Malaysia at Darkroom 8—so I’m not sure what developer or method they used. Between the development and my choices, the whites ended up really pure and the blacks got heavy/crushed, which actually gave some frames a gritty, noir-ish look that I genuinely enjoy. The bigger mistake though was on me: the Canon 7’s selenium meter needs the sensitivity changed in low light, and I left it in the normal mode—so all my indoor shots were underexposed like crazy. Even with the surprises, I’m happy with the roll: the film is sharp, detailed, and fine-grained. Next time I’d meter properly, probably shoot it at box speed, and test it in daylight—or even try developing it myself to get closer to the look Lomography intended.
