I've had the Canon C70 for about two weeks now and whilst I wished I could have shot a lot more with it, there is a full lockdown in my country due to the pandemic. I still wanted to share some of my first impressions and thoughts using this whilst I learn about this camera. I'm sharing a lot about the physical and my personal experiences using the camera thus far and will be going more in depth and technical in future videos. I don't think this camera is perfect but it is right for what I do. About This Video

In this video I share my first impressions of the Canon C70 after about two weeks of use (plus a short loan period before I bought my own). This isn’t a full review yet because Malaysia was in total lockdown, so I couldn’t properly push the camera in the kind of dynamic range–heavy personal projects I wanted to do. But I did bring it on a couple of corporate jobs, so a lot of what I talk about is real-world usability: how it feels in the hand, how fast I can work, and what’s genuinely helpful for the way I shoot. I go through image quality (C-Log3 looks really pleasing and organic, especially skin tones), built-in ND filters (some of the cleanest I’ve used), and the ergonomics—where I think the C70 is basically a cinema camera trying to be a mirrorless camera. The small form factor is amazing for packing light, but it also introduces micro-jitters and the rear screen makes handheld shooting less comfortable. I also cover the top handle, ports/buttons (I wish there was another dedicated record button), autofocus (acceptable, but not as usable as my 1DX Mark III/R-series), the RF mount, Canon’s 0.71x focal reducer, and Digital IS. My takeaway: it’s not perfect, but for a one-man-band shooter doing corporate/run-and-gun work, it’s “just right” if you understand what you actually need.
