Today I’m back on the Charizard hunt because Phantasmal Flames is finally here, and I’m cracking everything I picked up from three different pre-release events. That means a sealed Build & Battle Kit plus 14 prize packs (basically half a booster box), and I’m chasing the big stuff: Mega Charizard X, plus the other Mega Evolution hitters like Mega Gengar, Mega Heracross, and Mega Lopunny. I also talk through my pre-release experience—running the stamped Zacian promo deck at one event, playing with Ceruledge at the others, and how I’m trying to master set this entire set (including all four Build & Battle promos). Early on, the Build & Battle Kit gives me a solid start with a Secret Rare full art Sacred Charm, which was actually clutch in pre-release for surviving hits from ability-based attackers. Then the loose packs start heating up with pulls like Ludicolo IR, Mega Lopunny EX, and an Empoleon EX full art… but nothing prepared me for the moment the card peeked from the back: the GOLD Mega Charizard X EX. I’m not even the biggest Charizard fan, but pulling a Zard like that hits different—nostalgia every single time.
