I’m always looking for shared notes or similar olfactive groups, or I’ll go very linear (like a simple vanilla) so the combo doesn’t turn into jungle juice. I talk through a few different “schools” of layering: using a musky base to soften sharp edges, adding creaminess (vanilla, sandalwood, even buttery orris/iris) so the blend doesn’t feel harsh, and spraying placements next to each other instead of directly on top. I also touch on ratio—some scents will dominate, so you may need more sprays of the weaker one to stop it getting swallowed. And yes, I fully agree with the brutal truth: some perfumes are already so complex (Guidance, for example) that layering can distract from the actual beauty of the scent.
