About This Video

In this episode of our San Juan adventure series, I’m back in the Colorado high country with a family-and-friends trail day on Imogene Pass. Right now the Telluride side is closed from last year’s washout, so we ran it from the Ouray side as an out-and-back. The lineup was solid: my brother in his Jeep, my dad in his Bronco, Richard in his ZR2, and me leading the charge. After six miles up Camp Bird Road, we hit the start of Imogene and immediately got into the good stuff—waterfalls, rocky climbs, and those views that just keep getting better the higher you go. We played on a couple obstacles (including an optional one with a bypass… but you know I like to have fun), worked lines, used lockers, and bumped our way through the spicy bits. At the summit, I’ll say it again: out of all the San Juan trails we’ve run this year and last year, Imogene is still my favorite. It’s the perfect mix of fun challenges and unreal scenery. On the way down, I leaned on hill descent for a steep pitchy section, dealt with an active mini rock slide, and we finished with a river crossing that turned into a quick “damage report” for the Jeep’s low exhaust. We wrapped the day finding camp near Black Bear Pass, meeting subscribers, and setting up for tomorrow’s trail.
