About This Video

In this video I’m talking about my Fujifilm X100VI and, more specifically, my favorite in-camera recipe I’ve been using on it lately. The base is the Portra 800 recipe from Fuji X Weekly, but I’ve tweaked it to fit my style a little better. I’ll put the settings on screen in the video, but the whole point of my version is that it stays clean and clear without a super strong, stylized look—something I personally prefer. What I like about this recipe (especially after my adjustments) is how versatile it is. It works for skin tones if I’m shooting portraits, and it also holds up really nicely for landscapes—greens look great, and the overall rendering feels simple and elegant. It still has that “almost like film” vibe, but it isn’t overbearing. I also talk about why I’m leaning into JPEG shooting on Fuji: I can take a photo, send it to my phone, and instantly share it without feeling like I have to edit. The biggest changes I made versus the original Portra 800 recipe were removing grain (it looked too artificial to me), adjusting white balance, and tweaking the tone curve to add a bit more contrast by bringing the shadows down.
