In this video I break down the Panasonic Lumix S9 filmmaking rig I’ve been running for the past couple months, built around the S9 and the NiSi Athena 35mm T/1.9. I start with the camera already assembled, then strip it back and walk through the build piece-by-piece—what each part does, why I chose it, and how I keep the whole setup compact enough to actually want to take it out and shoot. The big theme here is flexibility: I can go from a minimal run-and-gun setup to a more “built out” monitor-and-handle rig in a couple minutes. I talk through the Simmod PL-to-L adapter (solid, tight, and affordable), why I add the DPL 100mm plate to reduce stress on the mount, and how the PD Movie Live Air 3 Smart gives me autofocus with a cinema lens. I also cover my audio and filter choices, including why I keep reaching for a variable ND even if it’s not the most “perfect” option. Finally, I show my monitor setup and explain a real-world annoyance with the S9’s HDMI placement—plus why that forces me into using a top handle whenever I run an external monitor.
