I think I can speak for everyone watching this video and say that we all have a “dream camera” or if you’re like me, “dream cameras”. But the thing holding a lot of us back is the sheer cost of these cameras or camera systems. But that’s exactly why I want to make this video, to shed some light on budget friendly alternatives to the expensive film cameras we all dream of owning. - My Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/michaelbennettphoto/ My Website: https://www.michaelbennettphoto.com My Email: OfficialMichaelBennett@gmail.com - Gear I used in this video: Nikon ZF: https://amzn.to/48z057z DJI Osmo Pocket 3: https://amzn.to/43fdOxe Epson V600: https://amzn.to/4kPzXcw Gitzo Tripod: https://amzn.to/4hJEawH Viltrox Monitor: https://amzn.to/3YXfWaR Aputure 120DII: https://amzn.to/4dVrLTt ZHIYUN CINEPEER CX100: https://amzn.to/3Xgr1D1 Zhiyun M20C RGB Light: https://amzn.to/4hpszSY Hollyland Lark M2: https://amzn.to/3WW5K11 Freewell V2 Magnetic VND & Snow Mist 1/4: https://amzn.to/4hRUc7b NiSi JetMag Pro Filter Kit: https://amzn.to/4guToUx - - - - - - - Leica MP, Leica M2, Canon P, Mamiya 7, Mamiya 7II, Fujica GM670, Plaubel Makina 67, Plaubel Makina 670, Plaubel Makina W67, Fujifilm GW670, Fujifilm GF670, Fujifilm GF670W, Hasselblad XPAN, Hasselblad XPAN II, Fujifilm TX-1, Fujifilm TX-2, Horizon Panoramic camera, Widelux F5, Widelux F6, Widelux F7, Widelux F8, best budget film camera, best budget rangefinder, xpan alternatives, 6x7 rangefinder cameras, 120 rangefinder cameras, 35mm panoramic camera, 120 panoramic camera

About This Video

In this video I’m talking about something I think all of us can relate to: “dream cameras” that are just wildly expensive. My goal here isn’t to pretend there are perfect 1:1 replacements—because there aren’t—but to shine some light on budget-friendly alternatives that get you close to the experience without dropping Leica MP, Mamiya 7, or XPAN money. And just to be clear, when I say “budget,” I mean cheaper than the dream options… not necessarily cheap. I start with the Leica MP (mechanical perfection, in my opinion, and one of the best-looking cameras ever made) and then point to more mechanical, rangefinder-style options like the Leica M2 and the Canon P. From there I get into the Mamiya 7/7II problem: it’s in a league of its own, so the alternatives are mostly compromise picks like the Fujica GM670 (amazing on paper, but mine broke after three rolls) and the Plaubel Makina 67 family (compact, gorgeous lens, but known meter-cable issues and fixed lenses). Finally, I talk panoramic alternatives to the Hasselblad XPAN/TX-1/TX-2—35mm spools in medium format bodies, 3D-printed pano builds, and swing-lens cameras like Horizon and Widelux—plus why I personally get nervous about XPAN electronics failing.
