About This Video

In this video I’m talking about the KEKS KM02—this compact little light meter that mounts to the hot shoe or cold shoe of basically any camera. I’ve had mine for about six months, and I’ve put it through a ton of real use: color negative, black and white, and even slide film. I walk through the core specs (aluminum body, USB-C charging, OLED screen, 50mm-ish metering view, ISO 6–102,400, 30s–1/18,000 shutter range, and f/1.0–f/128), then I show how the controls work for switching between aperture and shutter priority, locking a reading, changing ISO, and powering it down. The big question for me was accuracy, so I compared it directly to my Sekonic L-308S-U—my go-to handheld meter for years, especially with medium format. After testing, my apprehension basically disappeared because I was getting really similar readings between the two. From there I break down the pros (size, price, battery life, accuracy, and the black/chrome options) and the only two cons I’ve noticed: the buttons can be a bit noisy/jiggly, and depending on your camera/shoe adapter it can wiggle in the shoe more than I’d like. Overall, it’s a super convenient way to add a meter to something like my Leica M2 so I can carry one less piece of gear.
