What’s up guys—today I’m working on the 2021 Toyota Highlander and installing/reviewing the One Car Stereo Smart AI Box. The big problem I’m fixing is that our factory Apple CarPlay isn’t wireless, so you’ve gotta plug your phone in every single time. This box plugs into the USB port that talks to the radio (not the charging-only ports) and it basically turns your stock screen into a wireless CarPlay setup, plus it also supports Android Auto if you’re on an Android phone. After I plug it in, I show you how it pairs up, what the interface looks like, and how you can jump between the AI Box home screen and the normal CarPlay screen. The cool part is you can run apps like YouTube, and it’s got stuff like Netflix and Disney+ available too—just keep in mind you’ll need internet, so I use my phone’s hotspot to get it online. Overall it’s been way more seamless than a cheap dongle I tried before that would work for like 20 minutes and then crash, and on this one my volume controls and sound quality were working like normal. There’s a tiny bit of lag swapping screens, but nothing crazy—honestly it makes the factory Toyota radio feel more like a tablet.
