About This Video

In this video I reviewed the Kiwi Ears x Z Reviews Serene, one of Zeos’ collab closed-back planar headphones. I went through the unboxing (honestly, the packaging feels kinda cheap for the experience), then focused on the actual build: mostly plastic but it doesn’t feel cheap, with metal parts, a friction-based slider, and really plush, thick pads. Comfort is a big highlight for me—this is easily one of the most comfortable planar-type headphones I’ve worn, and it’s lightweight too. Also, I need to mention this: my unit had zero distortion or weird driver issues, even though other reviewers talked about it, so your mileage may vary. Sound-wise, the Serene is basically a bass-head fun machine. The bass shelf is aggressive (it starts around 300Hz and runs down into sub-bass), and it hits snappy while still having body—super fun, guilty-pleasure kind of tuning from a mixer’s perspective. Upper mids and treble are relaxed and smooth, so it leans dark-ish but not “dark side” dark. The midrange gets thicker because that bass shelf bleeds into fundamentals (male vocals especially), but it didn’t sound “wrong” to me. It does need amplification: straight from my phone I was near max volume, but on the FiiO QX13 it opened up and technicalities improved. Staging is intimate but layering and imaging are strong (I had no issues in Valorant), and for $159 the technical performance is very good—just don’t buy it expecting treble sparkle to be the main star.
