About This Video

In this video I reviewed the Jade Audio JT7, a “crazy value” open-back portable planar that sits around $110 USD. I went through the unboxing (tiny box, basically no protection besides a cloth sleeve), the included accessories (both 4.4mm balanced and 3.5mm single-ended cables), and my small nitpick: I wish they went modular instead of making me swap cables or use adapters. The cable itself is a bit rubbery and can be microphonic, but it’s not deal-breaking. For sound, I tested the JT7 mainly on the FiiO K13 R2R, plus I also tried it on a small dongle just to see if it’s picky (it’s not—easy to drive). My first impression was: it reminds me of the FT1 Pro, but with punchier/snappier bass, more detail, and less of that “plasticky” planar timbre. The bass is tight and fast, mids are slightly warm and more natural than FT1 Pro, and treble feels truthful with good extension and micro detail for the price. Technicalities are very strong at $110—medium stage for open-back, imaging can get genuinely holographic on a good source, and detail hits a sweet spot between musical and analytical. If you want an all-rounder planar on a tight budget, this is an easy pick.
