In this video I’m unboxing and sharing my first impressions of the new Godox Lux Junior and Lux Senior retro flashes. Godox sent these over for me to try, and I was honestly excited because they look so good on my Fujifilm X100V (the aesthetic match is definitely a bonus). I walk through the physical design and controls on both flashes—like the Lux Junior’s manual/auto dials, power adjust dial, meter panel, optical control switch, and the fact that it runs on two AAA batteries. For the Lux Senior, I show the folded design, the USB-C charging port, and how to open/close it (including the little red button you press to pop the bulb out before shooting). After the unboxing, I share real photo examples to show what these flashes can do. I shot outdoor tests in shade on a sunny day and also with direct sunlight hitting the side of my subject’s face—without flash the subject is super underexposed, and with either flash you can actually see facial features. I also did a simple “studio” setup using the Lux Senior bounced into an umbrella and the Lux Junior aimed at the backdrop for an infinite white look, and I was super impressed with the power—especially the Senior. I wrap up with nighttime Lux Junior samples that made me want to go shoot even more flash portraits at night.
