I love reading, and I also love collecting books… but my shelves were officially getting out of hand, so today I’m doing a full spring-cleaning book unhaul. I go shelf by shelf (fantasy first, then romance/lit fic/historical) and actually make myself decide what deserves a spot on my shelves: five-star favorites, books I can genuinely see myself recommending, and a few sentimental keeps (like the ones I tabbed with my book club). Everything else—books that fell flat, felt predictable, don’t match my taste anymore, or I know I’ll never reread—has to go so I can make room for future books I’m actually going to love. Along the way, I talk through specific opinions (like why Five Survive didn’t work for me, why Caraval is leaving even though I adored Once Upon a Broken Heart, and why some big fantasy sequels have been “a whole lot of nothing” for me). I also tackle my TBR cart, because keeping unread books I’m not excited about just stresses me out. The biggest takeaway is honestly simple: if I’m not gravitating toward it after years—or it’s not something I’d recommend—it’s time to let it find a new home.
