About This Video

In this video, I’m sharing the book recommendations I would genuinely hand to someone who’s trying to get into reading for the first time (or get back into it). I wanted to cover a bunch of genres and different book lengths—standalones, interconnected standalones, series, graphic novels, YA, and a few emotional heavy-hitters—because the biggest goal is finding that first book you literally don’t want to put down. This is part two of my little mini-series on getting into reading, so if you want the habit-building tips and tricks, part one is linked in the description. I start with romance because it’s where my own reading journey began, and I really do think it’s a low-stakes, page-turning place to start (yes, I talk about how much I love fake dating). Then I move into graphic novels for fast-paced wins, beginner-friendly fantasy series, nostalgic picks like The Hunger Games, and mystery/thrillers that are so quick you’ll fly through them. I also share a couple short literary fiction reads that pack an emotional punch, and I finish with historical fiction—like Daisy Jones & The Six (interview style perfection) and my Kristen Hannah starter picks, which will probably make you cry. Basically: pick what sounds fun, start small if you need to, and let that “can’t stop reading” feeling do the rest.
