About This Video

In this video, I’m kicking off part one of my little ā€œGetting into Readingā€ mini-series, and I’m sharing the exact tips and tricks that helped me fall back in love with reading as an adult (and read way more consistently). Since it’s a new year and a lot of us want to be on our phones less, I wanted to talk through simple, realistic ways to build a reading habit without making it feel overwhelming or expensive. I go through my favorite practical tools—like using a reading tracker app (I’ve used Goodreads forever, but I’ve been eyeing Fable too), joining or starting a book club, and getting a library card so you can try books for free. I also talk about giving yourself permission to DNF, how audiobooks totally count as reading (and how I like pairing them with cozy hobbies like coloring or journaling), and why setting a gentle reading goal can be so motivating. To make it easier to actually sit down and read, I share my timer trick for staying immersed and not reaching for my phone. And if you’re still figuring out what you even like, I talk about using your favorite movies/TV genres, finding creators with similar tastes, and picking something nostalgic (like Twilight, Percy Jackson, or The Hunger Games) to spark that reading joy again.
