About This Video

In this cozy (and honestly pretty sad) winter reading vlog, I finally stop putting off the emotional books I knew were going to wreck me and pick up two heavy hitters from my winter TBR. First, I start The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, which drops you straight into World War II in France and follows two sisters, Vianne and Isabelle, whose relationship is already messy before the war makes everything even more complicated. I talk through why Kristin Hannah’s books feel genuinely unputdownable to me, how quickly this story made me tear up, and why I had to take my time with it (and even start a fluffier book on the side) because the stakes and the history behind it felt really intense. After I finish The Nightingale (five stars, no question—this one changed me), I lean into the winter storm vibes and jump into Us Against You by Fredrik Backman, the second book in the Beartown trilogy. I buddy read it with Lottie and share my thoughts as I get reacquainted with the town, the many POVs, and the more political angle this book takes. By the end, I’m super conflicted: I still love Backman’s writing style, but this one didn’t hit like Beartown for me, and I unpack why it felt a little off—more like a 3 to 3.5-star read, even though I still care so much about characters like Benji and Maya.
