After spending a lot of time in Japan, and with another trip coming up soon, I’ve become really motivated to learn more Japanese – both writing, speaking, and gaining a deeper understanding of the culture. I use writing practice, podcasts, movies, conversations with my Japanese friends, and many other methods to improve. I hope this video inspired you either to start learning a new language yourself or to find new ways to improve the one you’re already studying!:) *LINKS & DISCOUNTS* Organic Basics https://organicbasics.pxf.io/POBNDz Code: KATHARINA10 RUNNA https://web.runna.com/redeem?code=KATHARINA Code: KATHARINA (2-week free trial) Electrolytes and vitamins: https://www.supplme.com code: KATHARINA15 Sqaurespace: https://squarespace.com/katharina code: KATHARINA10 *VIDEO INFO* Filmed with DJI Osmo Pocket 3 and edited in Final Cut Pro X Music: Epidemic Sound – https://share.epidemicsound.com/n23faf *LET'S CONNECT* Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/katharinaschneiderr/ Strava – https://www.strava.com/athletes/67275176 All business inquiries at contactkschneider@gmail.com Chapters 0:00 Taking on Japanese on my own 1:05 Writing 1:1 and learning from podcasts 2:32 Japan travel hack 3:53 Speaking Japanese in public 5:59 Anime and more Tags studying, japanese, Japan studies, japanese studies, how to learn languages, airalo, study hacks, study routine, Japan studies, how to study japanese on your own

About This Video

Three months ago I had to decide whether to go all-in on a full Japan Studies degree or continue with online business and marketing—and I chose business because it fits what I do now and what I want long-term. But I haven’t given up on Japanese at all. With my Japan trip coming up (Tokyo Half Marathon, Kyoto Marathon, and living there temporarily), I’m super motivated to get a head start on the basics—writing, listening, and actually trying to use the language in real life. In this video I show exactly how I study Japanese fully on my own in a way that feels simple and doable. I start with hiragana (because honestly, the alphabets are challenging) and practice characters by matching them to sounds, then I reinforce it with free podcasts—taking notes and trying to write down what I hear. I also push myself to speak Japanese in public here in Copenhagen at Japanese spots (even when I’m nervous and people stare), because there’s just no way around speaking if you want to learn. To make it more fun and immersive, I watch Studio Ghibli with English subtitles and try to pick up words and phrases over time. It’s difficult, but it’s also genuinely enjoyable—and I know it’ll help so much once I’m back in Japan and speaking with my Japanese friends.
