This one was a true “why not go live?” Saturday night stream—my wife and I were already building, so we fired up an impromptu live build and hung out with whoever wandered in. The plan was simple: start LEGO Shopping Street (the new modular) and chat while we did the boring-but-real parts of the hobby—sorting bags (or not sorting, depending on which one of us you ask), figuring out the lighting, and trying to get the box in frame so people could actually see what we were building. Along the way we talked about a bunch of AFOL-adjacent stuff that comes up when you’re mid-build: LEGO’s shift to paper bags (and why some sets are mixed paper/plastic), shipping delays and how orders can take forever to pack but then show up overnight, and my usual “I’ll make it work” approach to city building—like when I’m hunting plates to MILS-plate a base and I genuinely don’t care if the hidden colors don’t match because nobody’s seeing them anyway. We also got into the new “smart bricks” conversation—my take is I’m skeptical, especially with the tag/chip dependency and what happens when stuff gets lost or discontinued. And yes, the livestream wouldn’t be complete without chaos: a camera bump “earthquake,” some In-N-Out water commentary, and a surprise bunny cameo (Nigel) shedding fur everywhere.
