About This Video

In this video I take a close look at the Sculpfun iCube ProMax 10W, which is one of those portable “all-in-one” style diode lasers that are popping up everywhere lately. Sculpfun sent it over for review, and I walk you through what’s in the box (laser module, cables, replacement filters, safety glasses, tools, sample MDF and basswood, and the removable base plate), the ports and layout, and what it’s like to actually set up. Setup is genuinely simple—slide the module on, tighten the screw, plug in USB-C and power—and LightBurn found it automatically, which I loved. Then I get into real testing across MDF, wood, slate, anodized aluminium, and card stock. MDF was the easy win (it pretty much always is), wood engraves looked great, and the machine surprised me on cutting—2mm ply cut beautifully, and it even cut 5mm paulownia at 180 speed / 100% power in one pass. Slate took a bit of dialing in because my first settings were way too intense, but after testing it looked much better. I wrap up with the pros and cons: it’s compact, easy to store, and you can still work on larger items by overhanging or moving the machine—but it’s noisy (likely the filter), the base plate slides around, and the safety shield is a bit fiddly until you get used to it.
