About This Video

In this LightBurn tutorial, I’m showing you how to minimize waste by aligning shapes perfectly—so you can go from big gaps (and unnecessary cutting) to a tight layout that doesn’t make your laser cut the same overlapped sections twice. I walk through two quick methods using coaster blanks as examples, and I also show you exactly what to look for in Preview so you can confirm your file is cutting efficiently. First, I use the Grid Array tool with rounded-square coasters. I set my X and Y spacing to zero to remove the gaps, then I jump into Preview to show the problem: LightBurn will happily cut overlapped lines multiple times unless you tell it not to. The fix is simple—go to Optimization Settings and enable “Remove overlapping lines.” In method two, I switch to hexagons and show why a basic grid can still leave wasted space around the edges. Instead, I duplicate shapes and use “Snap to objects” to line everything up cleanly (tip: grab from the corner crosshair and snap like-to-like). Then I turn on “Remove overlapping lines” again, preview it, and you’ll see clean moves (red travel lines) instead of double cuts.
