In this video I’m sharing a bunch of project ideas using the xTool F1, but with a big focus on what you can do once you add the xTool F1 slide extension. xTool sent us a range of materials to test—3mm plywood, 3mm black acrylic, laser engraving photo paper, and some extra-long slate tiles—so I worked through a mix of practical, giftable projects that really show off the longer working area. I start with 3mm plywood and create a longer “homestead” style sign by duplicating and mirroring an SVG in xTool Creative Space (which has gotten quite sophisticated since I last used it). I used the default plywood setting at first, but the engraving wasn’t intense enough, so I adjusted it. The engrave looked great, but next time I’d tweak the cut to reduce edge burning—possibly faster speed and two passes. From there I cut a playing card storage box template in one go using the slide extension, then move into one of my favourite materials: 3mm acrylic. I make alphabet key rings, zodiac coasters, and a lion image coaster (with background removal and image inversion). I also test the lion on photo engraving paper (results were way better than expected), and finish with slate candle stands and quick wooden spoon gifts using the framing feature to line everything up perfectly.
