Two sketchbooks, my favourite coloured pencils and two paint palettes to travel sketch... trying to keep it simple for a 4 day trip to the Korean mainland, from Jeju to Gwangju to Mokpo and back again. Hopefully I can inspire you to give travel sketching a try, too, or give you new ideas for busy city trips! 💚 I love how the "mini evys" spread turned out, and the sketch of all my art materials came in surprisingly handy when I finally edited this video! About This Video

For this 4-day trip across the Korean mainland (Jeju → Gwangju → Mokpo → back), I tried to keep my travel sketch kit as simple as I realistically could: two sketchbooks, my favourite coloured pencils, and two tiny paint options. In the video I walk you through how I decide what’s worth packing (and what absolutely isn’t), plus how I think about “line” vs “shape” mediums when I’m sketching on the go—because that choice basically decides whether I’m doing quick, clean drawings or leaning into big, painterly blocks of colour. I also share how I pick a loose theme for a trip so I don’t freeze up when I sit down in a café, and how I balance nature vs industry when the city is visually… a lot. There’s a big emphasis on staying open to the unexpected, using references on-the-go, and letting go when a sketch isn’t perfect (because travel sketching is not the time to be precious). And yes—the little “mini evys” spread was such a fun surprise, and the sketch of my materials ended up being genuinely useful later when I was editing.
