In this video I’m taking you along for my full painting process on a (slightly vampiric) book endpaper illustration for Fangs for Nothing—starting at the sketch stage and going all the way to the final acrylic painting. I show how I prep my line drawing so it’s actually pleasant to paint over, and how I think through a color palette before I commit (because once acrylics start drying, they really do make you decide). It’s a cozy, behind-the-scenes look at how I approach book work when I want the piece to feel moody, readable, and still a little magical. I’m painting on textured Arches oil paper, which changes the whole feel of the brushwork and edges, and I talk through why I like mixing different acrylic lines—regular heavy body with OPEN and Fluid—so I can control drying time and texture instead of fighting it.
