I splurged on these sets of Korean traditional paints, as well as brushes and palettes for this art haul - and then, of course, come swatches, studies, art style experiments, and finally a full illustration. Inspired by Korean traditional folk art - Minhwa - but also fantasy, tarot, and my favorite tapestry, this mixed media painting is the February art print, celebrating the Lunar New Year (with a fire unicorn! 🦄❤️) Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/EvelynePark (this print is available for sign-ups until March 3rd) Shop & Portfolio : https://www.evydraws.com/shop Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/evydraws/ INPRNT : https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/evybak/ ✧ ART MATERIALS ✧ The Alpha Chaehyang Paints can be found here if you're in Korea: https://hwabang.net/product/detail.html?product_no=74238&cate_no=7059&display_group=1 Similar paints are available by Shinhan internationally. https://amzn.to/46zlax8 (I have only tested a single shade of these, but they feel very similar, so if you're curious about the medium, these might be a good alternative.) About This Video

In this cozy little art haul, I finally let myself splurge on something I’ve been curious about for ages: traditional Korean paints. I unbox everything I picked up—brushes, palettes, and the paint sets—then I do the only reasonable thing (in my opinion): immediate swatches and small studies so I can actually understand what I bought. I also talk about the one thing I truly needed (and everything else I very much wanted), plus some practical setup bits like how I light my desk when I’m filming ink lines and paint details. After the haul, I move into experimentation mode: swatching, doing color studies, playing with ink (including an ink stone moment), and comparing the feel of these paints to similar Shinhan sets that are easier to get internationally. The big creative thread for the final piece is Minhwa-inspired folk art—bold shapes, decorative color, and that celebratory energy—while still letting myself mix in my usual fantasy/tarot/tapestry influences. It all builds into a finished mixed media illustration that became my February print for Lunar New Year… featuring a fire unicorn, because of course it does.
