This video is my biggest Jackson’s Art haul so far, and it’s basically a cozy unboxing + “let’s actually use the stuff” session. I go through a bunch of new mixed media goodies—lots of painting supplies, several kinds of coloured pencils, and (of course) brushes, because I can never resist a brush. I swatch colours as I go so you can see how everything looks on paper, and I talk through what I’m excited to use for sketchbook work vs. more finished paintings. After the unboxing, I move into testing mode: I break in a new sketchbook, do some sketching, and then paint a tiny fantasy portrait to see how the new brushes and paints behave in a real piece. Lately I’ve been obsessed with sketching and painting tabletop game characters—probably because we’re starting a new campaign and I just played a short Pathfinder adventure—so the little portrait is very “orc-ish character” energy, with a bunch of sprites leading up to it.
