I completed a small sketchbook full of movie scenes with a portrait practice focus (hopefully!) showing a slow evolution of shading and art style as I explore different pencils, colored pencils, and even gouache. I'm also showing the drawing process as I fill the last page in this sketchbook! These tiny Hahnemühle travel booklets are perfect as more project focused sketchbooks, with just 20 pages to fill, and I'm so happy I completed this quickly (for me). About This Video

I finally finished a tiny sketchbook (which honestly feels like an achievement for me), and in this video I’m doing a full sketchbook tour through it. It’s a Hahnemühle travel booklet (9x14 cm) with just 20 pages, and I used it as a super focused little project: movie scenes + portrait practice. The goal was to get more reps in with faces and values, and you can really see the slow evolution as I go—my shading gets more confident, I push contrast more, and my “default” way of drawing starts to shift as I test different tools. Along the way, I talk through the supplies that made the biggest difference for this sketchbook: the pencils and colored pencils I kept reaching for, what I liked about them, and where they’re honestly a bit impractical (like buying certain colors open stock because full sets are… a lot). I also show the drawing process for filling the last page, so you can see how I build a portrait from loose guidelines into darker shapes and finishing details. If you’re looking for a cozy sketchbook flip-through with real material notes (and a sketchbook you can actually finish), this one’s for you.
