I’m kicking off a brand new travel sketchbook by filling that very first page with a little set of gouache landscapes—basically a mini Jeju memory board. I paint hydrangea flowers, volcanic rocks, ocean views, and that moving mist feeling you get when the weather shifts while you’re out exploring. This whole session is cozy and slow, but it’s also me really paying attention to how these paints behave on mixed media paper. The star of the video is Holbein’s Irodori Artist Gouache (I’m genuinely obsessed), and I test both the “Spring” and “Winter” palettes while talking through first impressions, texture, and how I choose colors when I’m building a small series. I’ve also been making a real effort to understand pigments more, so I go deeper during the swatches and explain what I’m noticing rather than just showing the colors.
