So, I had to get some (fan)art out of my system - perfect for starting a new sketchbook! I'll be trying out this "lay flat" type mixed media sketchbook by Arrtx, so I can draw over two pages in a variety of art materials, from colored pencils to markers and watercolors... Because these Kpop Demon Hunters character portraits are based on an animated movie, I wanted to chat about how I draw stylized portraits: Which features I like to exaggerate, what makes the biggest impact, and how rendering and linework play into the art style choice. I hope you enjoy this drawing process, no matter if you've seen the movie or not. 🐅 Shop & Portfolio : https://www.evydraws.com/shop Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/EvelynePark (NEW: Monthly Prints Membership) Instagram : https://www.instagram.com/evydraws/ https://www.inprnt.com/gallery/evybak/ (shipping prints to the EU!) ✧ ART MATERIALS ✧ FTC disclaimer: This is not a paid sponsored video, but the item in this video was gifted to me to try out @arrtxglobal Arrtx A5 Sketchbook on Amazon: US: https://amzn.to/45txuM0 CA: https://amzn.to/3Q7KpOK UK: https://amzn.to/45yAeHS DE: https://amzn.to/3ZW6qUw JP : https://amzn.to/3tvQqwc AliExpress: https://bit.ly/3uWzQ9S Arrtx Official: https://bit.ly/4csRqmY #arrtx #arrtxsketchbook #arrtxa5 Mixed media supplies used: Colored pencils: https://amzn.to/4eThtoM * Acrylic Markers: https://amzn.to/3IvQBPT * Pastel Alcohol Markers: https://amzn.to/450lqni * Watercolors: https://amzn.to/4eThJEg * * I may earn commissions for purchases made through marked* links above * ✧ MUSIC ✧ Chillpeach - Loading : https://youtu.be/1t1Rp9Nx--M?si=oUJ3J_Z1LOhGOW2C & YouTube Audio Library * 출처 - 국립국악원, https://www.kogl.or.kr/recommend/recommendDivView.do?atcUrl=personal&recommendIdx=51593&division=audio * 출처 - 국립국악원, https://www.kogl.or.kr/recommend/recommendDivView.do?atcUrl=personal&recommendIdx=51659&division=audio ✧ CHAPTERS ✧ 00:00 starting a new sketchbook 01:12 first impressions 03:40 stylized portrait sketch 06:32 the biggest difference... 07:32 sketchbook spread composition 08:55 stylized lines 10:16 tigers & markers 💙 12:46 alcohol marker 14:50 stylized, but for colors 18:10 chromatic shadows 19:25 cat cameo 20:20 shading & layering colored pencil 22:49 watercolor base 23:50 finish as stylization 26:40 final thoughts

About This Video

I’m starting a brand new sketchbook page (actually, two pages) with some very necessary fanart: stylized portraits inspired by KPop Demon Hunters. This video is a cozy sketch-with-me where I break in a lay-flat A5 mixed media sketchbook from Arrtx, because I really wanted that seamless spread experience—so I can draw right across the gutter and not fight the book the whole time. As I draw, I talk through how I approach stylized portraits when the source is an animated film: what features I like to push, what changes make the biggest impact fastest (without losing the character), and how linework vs. rendering choices steer the final “style.” I also test the sketchbook with a mix of supplies—colored pencils, acrylic markers, pastel alcohol markers, and watercolor—so you can see how it handles layering and mixed media on one spread. If you’re starting a new sketchbook, or you’ve been wanting to loosen up your portrait stylization, this one is meant to feel like a gentle, practical drawing session you can follow along with.
