In this video I’m checking out the Neural DSP Quad Cortex CorOS 3.3.0 update, and yes—this one genuinely changes a lot for bass players. I start by running through the new blocks: the Aggie sub octaver (an Aguilar-style octaver) which is a pretty fine octaver if I may say so myself, the Dumbbell ODS that sounds pretty darn good on bass, and a gorgeous new chorus type called the Microprocessor. Then I dig into the new Synth Block (mono synth from Archetype Rabea), including the arpeggiator and how you can get more punch by blending in something like the octaver. The biggest deal for me, though, is Neural Capture 2. The new capture algorithm is a game changer: it can capture fuzzes, compressors, and more elaborate chains, and the feel is way closer—especially with things like limiter response that used to be hard to nail. I do a fresh capture of my Sun Coast BC3 XL stereo bass preamp and A/B it against the real unit, and it’s honestly uncanny. On top of that, we also get two new bass cabinets (an Ampeg 410 and a ’90s-style 810), which just adds even more tonal options inside the box.
