About This Video

In this video I do something I normally don’t do on my channel: a live reaction. My brother Björn texted me in the morning and asked if I could check out his new band’s very first single and react to it on camera, so of course I said yes. The band is Slok/Slack (I’m still not 100% sure how they want it pronounced), a Swedish-Japanese group with Björn on sax, Henrik Linder (Dirty Loops) on bass, Akito Shirai on keys, and Senri Kawaguchi on drums. The track is called “Beef Jerk” and it’s released through Universal Music Japan. Right off the bat I get huge Brecker Brothers vibes—Björn definitely wears his inspirations on his sleeve, just like I do. What surprised me is how organic and crispy the drums sound, and how modern the overall soundscape feels while still being super funky. I also nerd out on the playing: the keyboard solo gives me Greg Phillinganes/David Paich vibes, and Senri’s sound and feel reminds me of Simon Phillips. And yes, I noticed it: Henrik doesn’t slap a single note. It’s honestly refreshing—just fingerstyle pocket, super solid, with a killer tone (that Madisson bass sounded amazing). The mix has great separation but still feels cohesive and “live,” and I’m genuinely curious what Henrik was playing through. Two thumbs up—and I’m hoping they go massively viral.
