How do you build a tiny Quad Cortex Mini bass pedalboard?

I built mine on a Pedaltrain Nano Plus with the Quad Cortex Mini as the brain, and an EBS Runsten underneath to power the whole thing. The key for me is keeping it simple: wireless straight into the QC, and one expression pedal for control. It’s tiny, but it covers everything I need for gigs.

What wireless system are you using on your bass pedalboard?

I’m using two XVive P-58 wireless units because my bass has two outputs. One transmitter/receiver pair handles the P-style pickup and the other handles the neck pickup, each going into its own QC Mini input. They’ve been working surprisingly well next to each other with no interference.

Can the XVive P-58 be used with cables if the battery dies?

Yes, and that’s one of the reasons I like it. The receiver has a quarter-inch input on the side, so I can just plug a cable straight into the receiver if I have to. That little safety net is pretty darn neat.

How do you charge the XVive P-58 transmitters?

Accepted Answer

The transmitters charge over USB-C, and the receiver has a USB-C output on top. That means you can actually charge the transmitters from the receiver, which I think is super convenient. It’s one of those small features that makes life easier.

What does the Darkglass Anagram Press do in your Quad Cortex Mini setup?

I’m running the Anagram Press into the QC Mini with a TRS cable and using it for volume swells. I’ve also assigned it to control a whammy block inside the QC for pitch fun. Having an expression pedal again after all these years is honestly inspiring.

What preset did you use live with this tiny pedalboard?

I gigged this setup using a preset I’m uploading to Cortex Cloud called “Arkö Swiss Army Bass.” It’s a one-output preset because I dialed it in with a regular bass, but it has a bunch of scenes like ambient, funky, drive, synth, metal, octaves, and my main meat-and-potatoes tone. It worked great at the gig.

Do you have a dual output preset for a two-output bass on Quad Cortex Mini?

Yes, I made a dual-output version as well. In that one I’m running two instances of Parallax X—one for the neck pickup and one for the P-style pickup—so the combined sound gets really massive and growly. It’s a great way to keep the dual-output character without compromises.
