In this video, I’m adding Josh.ai voice control to an existing Control4 smart home, and I brought Bryan with me—our Director of Technology and Service (and yeah, the best to ever do it). The big takeaway is simple: Control4 is the workhorse foundation, and Josh sits on top of it to “supercharge” the system. Once your Control4 project is named and organized correctly—lights, TVs, streamers, rooms—Josh can pull everything in fast and start doing what it does best: natural voice control for lighting, AV, and scenes. We walk through how we add Josh Micros (Wi‑Fi or PoE, and I always recommend having at least one hardwired), create the building, and let the app discover what’s already on the network. Then we show the back-end linking step—like pairing the Living Room Roku—so commands like “Watch Netflix in the living room” work instantly. My favorite part is how quickly you can go from basic commands (“Kitchen lights off”) to multi-step scenes like “Movie time” that combine AV + lighting. If you’re under 100 devices, we also talk real numbers: roughly $769 for the Josh hardware, $330/year licensing, and about 5–8 hours of custom programming where we sit together virtually and dial it in.
