About This Video

Some projects may be too small, but there’s no such thing as too big—and this Texas smart home is proof. In this first-phase walkthrough, I’m taking y’all inside a mega build that’s been a long time in the making. We’re not covering every square foot yet, but I’m highlighting the major rooms where the planning really matters: the great room, the dedicated theater, outdoor entertainment, and an ultimate car-guy garage built for hosting. In the great room, we’re doing a massive 100” display with surround sound, but the real win is keeping it clean. We originally planned in-wall speakers, but as designs evolved we pivoted to invisible speakers because this room doesn’t have much wall space and it’s the heart of the home. I also show an in-wall subwoofer approach that disappears behind sheetrock and ends up looking like an AC vent—sleek but still powerful. Throughout the house, we’re running Cat cable for future-ready infrastructure, user interfaces, and we’re going all-in on voice control with a fully Josh.ai home. In the theater, we’re planning an acoustic screen with LCR behind it, a 9-channel layout with Atmos in the ceiling, and dual subs—plus a local PS5-style gaming setup to keep remotes close and reduce lag. And yes, we’re even kicking around microLED vs projector, so stay tuned as this one comes to life.
