About This Video

In this video I bring y’all into a real Texas new-build where we did centralized lighting with Control4. Centralized lighting means I’m not stuffing a wall full of line-voltage switch legs and cable clutter—instead, we pull those loads back to a lighting panel. In the panel you’ll see dimming modules and switch modules, and out in the rooms we use clean, low-voltage keypads to control everything. The keypad ties into a bus power supply and sends commands back and forth so the loads get controlled from the panel, not from a “bank of switches” on the wall. The big win is control and a clean look. I can program how your lights dim, when they dim, how fast they fade, and what rooms participate in a scene. Those keypads aren’t just for lights either—one “Good Morning” button can trigger lighting, locks, shades, thermostat, gate, and more with custom programming. I also show how this same control shows up on the Control4 T4 touchscreen, where you can see every load, set presets (like always turning on to 65%), build scenes/routines, and even temporarily disable an automatic routine if you’re hosting a party. If you’re building or remodeling, this has to be planned during the design stage because the wiring is different—but it’s one of the best ways to eliminate “wall acne” and level up the whole smart home.
