There’s a ton of “budget filmmaking gear” out right now, and I’ll be real… a lot of it is not worth it. In this video I tested the Shimbol TP Mini wireless transmission system that Shimbol sent me, and I wanted to actually use it on real jobs before I talked about it. They didn’t pay me to say anything, so everything I’m saying is just my honest experience after about a week and a half of testing. The big reason this one caught my attention is the price—around $89—because most wireless video systems people compare it to (like Hollyland) are $300–$400+. I go over what’s in the box, build quality, ports, power, pairing, and the real thing that matters: latency. Shimbol claims 0.07s latency and up to 600ft range, and while I’m not expecting miracles through walls and trees, it held up for the type of work I actually do—corporate interviews, conferences, and basic sit-down gigs. If you’re a one-man band and you just want something that gets the job done (and gets the client off your back), this is a solid budget option to consider.
