About This Video

In this vlog I’m on a week-long, international event job with a client I worked with about a year ago. The best part is I’m able to run my online business from anywhere, so before call time I’m literally uploading Facebook ads while my cameras are already set and ready to work. The job itself was pretty straightforward event coverage—some days are only a few hours, one day ran longer, and we’re mainly conducting interviews and grabbing the usual b-roll. I also break down my interview setup: FX3 as the A-cam with a 24–70 around 60mm, and an a7 IV as the B-cam with an 85. Key light is an Aputure 300X, I’m bouncing into diffusion to wrap the face, booming a Rode mic overhead, and I even had to add a little panel light just to keep a black couch from getting crushed. The biggest headache on set was color matching—same settings, but the FX3 was warmer than the a7 IV, so we had to dial in temps to avoid everything going crazy pink. Then I get into the real “hard truth” side: juggling e-commerce while traveling. I tested a product, surf scaled after early sales, spent over $500 in ads… and then my supplier ran out of stock. That forced refunds and basically killed the product. On top of that, I realized I was overpaying for my agency ad account ($567/month), so I’m cutting costs and switching to a cheaper option while I keep learning this game.
