In this vlog I’m on a smaller budget job, but I’m still treating it like a real set because I’m trying to build my network the right way. I walk through the gear list we needed, what we decided to cut to save money (like skipping a bigger slider rental), and what I personally rented out of my own pocket—like a super wide 16mm—because the client wanted a distorted wide shot and I also wanted to test the lens anyway. My FX6 stays pretty minimal, so I don’t even own certain rig pieces yet because I’m not running a shoulder setup like that. Once we’re on set in Daytona Beach, Florida, I’m wearing a lot of hats: DP, communicating with the director, monitoring audio, and working with a focus puller. We ran Hollyland wireless video so my first AC could pull focus off my monitor, while I used the EVF (which I forgot I even had). It’s hot, it’s bright, and it’s a constant battle of “am I watching framing or audio right now?” I also ask y’all a real freelancer question: do you buy a client SSD and hand off footage instead of uploading huge 4K files to Google Drive that take all day?
